Panchayat

A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for carrying out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj institutions. In the case of a Gram Panchayat, it is the principal committee that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and manages day-to-day governance.Main Components of a PanchayatPresident:The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and oversees the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President:Performs the duties of the President in their absence.Ward Members:Elected representatives from each ward within the Panchayat.Standing Committees:These are subcommittees formed to facilitate decision-making and administration in specific areas such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

Ranni Angadi is a small village that holds a significant place in the social and cultural history of Central Travancore. Surrounded by hills, paddy fields, the Pamba River, and forest landscapes, the village is known for its natural beauty. Trade, migration, and communal harmony have all played vital roles in shaping its development. Ranni evolved under the influence of the Chera, Pandya, and Pandalam royal dynasties. The local chieftains, popularly known as the "Ranni Karthakkanmars," encouraged agriculture and promoted settlement in the region. As trade in arecanut and black pepper flourished, merchants from Tamil Nadu, followed by Muslim, Christian, and Vellala communities, migrated and settled here, contributing to the village's growth and diversity.
